2nd Annual Arts in the Park event set for June 20

This ear of corn statue painted by Brian Parr will be among 10 offered by silent auction. The Arts In The Park Festival will be held on the 20th day of June from 9 am – 4 pm. at  elebration Park in Vinton, located at 1st Avenue and West 2nd Street next to the Cedar River bridge. Admission is free; many area artists plan to exihibit their work and offer a variety of items for sale. Smokin' on the Cedar & Laydbug Concessions will be the food vendors.

6th Annual Special Olympics Benefit Ride set for Aug. 22

Mark your calendars for our 6th Annual Benefit Ride - for VSU Special Olypmics Team! Remember this ride is Not just for bikes! ALL VEHICLES WELCOME! Rain or Shine we will still have this ride! Volunteers sought for poverty simulation event

The public is invited to participate in a Poverty Simulation to be held Wednesay, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Vinton-Shellsburg High School. The Poverty Simulation is a unique, interactive experience that helps people begin to understand what it might be like to live in an impoverished family, trying to survive from month to month.

Farmland lease meeting set for Aug. 7 in Van Horne

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Benton County is hosting a farmland leasing meeting on Friday, August 7, at 1:00pm to address questions that land owners, tenants, or other interested individuals have about farmland leasing. The meeting will be held at the Van Horne Community Center, 508 1st Ave. The meeting is approximately 2 ½ hours in length.

VPRD plans Glow-Ball Mini Golf event Friday

The Vinton Parks and Recreation Department will be having our Glow Ball Mini Golf Night this Friday, June 5, 2015 from 9-11pm.  Come out and play some mini golf in the dark and have a blast with family and friends. 

Vinton Farmers Market Season Gets Underway June 4th

  The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will kick off another Farmers Market season on Thursday, June 4th. The market will once again be hosted at the Vinton Railroad Depot from 5 to 7 PM every Thursday through September 24th. This Thursday, visitors will be able to take part in our free annual long distance balloon contest while enjoying a solo musical performance from Stephen Schmidt.

Friends of the Shelter garage sale set for Tuesday, Thursday

Friends of the Shelter is hosting a garage sale THIS week!   From 1-4 on Tuesday, June 2 and 1-7 Thursday, June 4, you can come shop at our adoption center!   From dog toys to cat scratchers; kennels to prints; clothes to household décor, we have something for everyone...whether you're two legged or four!

'Lost Town' series author to discuss Prohibition June 6 in Vinton

Everyone is invited to attend the presentation, "Prohibition in Eastern Iowa" on at the Horridge House in Vinton, Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM.        Linda Betsinger McCann, author of the "Lost Towns" series, looks at the 13 year span of time known as "Prohibition" through the lens of Eastern Iowa townspeople and others.

Cooling Dancers to present 25th annual recital Saturday

At the Fair The Cooling Dancers of Vinton will present their 25th Annual Recital “Up Up and Away We Dance!” this Saturday and Sunday at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School Auditorium. The event will feature hundreds of young dancers, ages 3 to 18, as well as five groups of “Daddy Daughter” duos in performances throughout the weekend.

Taste of Vinton this Saturday!

Vinton Unlimited is excited to host A Taste of Vinton this Saturday, May 30th. Begin your Taste of Vinton journey at Celebration Park where you will check-in, receive your passport & other goodies. You will then travel throughout the Vinton community sampling a variety of products including beer, wine, ice cream, desserts and dips, all available for purchase right here in our community!  Taste of Vinton stops include Fareway, Cameron’s, Henkle Creek, The Hope Chest, L Marie Boutique, Rabe Hardware, Clingman Pharmacy, Tootsie’s Ice Cream, LaGrange Pharmacy, Jessy’s Gems & The Vinton Guild of Fine Arts.
